The Eifelsteig is a long-distance hiking trail winding between the historic cities of Aachen and Trier, unfolding a journey through the scenic Eifel region, part of the Rhenish Massif. Guided by the promise of “Just you, the water and the rocks”, it leads through the misty expanses of the Hohes Venn moor, past ancient volcanic craters, dense forests, river valleys, and quaint villages that showcase traditional rural life. The path is thoughtfully divided into manageable stages, inviting hikers to discover a new rhythm each day, as the landscape shifts and reveals fresh impressions with every step. Did you know that the Eifel region is known for its volcanic history, with ancient lava flows and maars (volcanic crater lakes) scattered along the route?

It is not allowed to wildcamp on the Eifelsteig, but there are wonderful camping opportunities on the road. There are small camping spots in the heart of nature, without any facilities (although you need to book them beforehand). With either long hiking days or a combination with organized campsites, you can spend long stretches of the Eifelsteig sleeping just in a tent.
